Lost opportunity

The Trump family welcomed the New Year in their typical me-first, you-last fashion. Ivanka bought a multimillion dollar property at year's end while President Trump planned a fancy pay-for-yourself party at his fancy club. The Trump family achieved their vision of propping up the wealth and privilege of a few while crippling the good life for most of us via a raging pandemic, policies that prop up the wealth, power, and privilege of only a few, and a country divided. Imagine if President Trump and his corrupt family had focused on uplifting opportunity and good living for all Americans, rather than leading with their own corrupt aims instead. Well, now that they have lost the election as well as any respect or trust from many, many Americans, it is time for all of us to focus on working for betterment in our own lives and the lives of all Americans. What can we do?

We have to find ways to let the truth ring out, rather than propaganda that has fooled so many to prop up the power of a few--we have to find ways to make sure that the information people are getting is truthful information, information that tells the real story of what supports their lives rather than harms their lives. We also have to come together to support policies, laws, and initiaitves that truly uplift us as a nation and a people. Clearly, good policy and efforts in the areas below will support better living for all.

Optimal medical health

We are still in the midst of a raging pandemic which has had severe consequences for all of us in one way or another. We need to find ways to make sure that people get the health care they need now and into the future. A healthy population will be a strong, prosperous population.

Nutritious, healthy foods

Food systems need to be healthy, affordable, and accessible. Our good health and good living depends on access to healthy foods, and a focus on healthy, local food sources is optimal when possible.

Basic needs

Besides good health care and nutritious foods, people need access to warm, welcoming homes, safe neighborhoods, and adequate income--the kind of income that can afford people the money they need for essentials and a little fun too.

Healthy, positive recreation

Good, healthy recreation make people happy. The addition of clean, safe parks, bike trails, beaches, basketball courts, and other healthy recreation spaces and places will promote greater health and positivity.

Optimal education

It's time to take a new look at public education so that schools offer students a modern, accessible, affordable opportunity to gain skills and knowledge that will uplift their lives.

Protected resources and natural lands

We have to protect our wonderful natural resources and lands--there are countless ways to do that, and we can work for that as a country.

Positive international relations and efforts

As a world, we depend on one another. Many of the greatest world issues such as immigration and climate change demand an international focus--it is essential that we foster and promote positive relations with countries the world over.

These are my top priorities for our our country and lives in 2021. Personally, we all need to find ways to uplift our daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly routines to take care of one another, live well, and be generous. I look forward to this personal challenge.
