Measurable change and positivity

So many of us are beginning the new year with a sense of hope about the year ahead. I hope that I'll take the good lessons of the past pandemic year and use them to live better in the days ahead. What will that mean, and how can I measure this progress?

Safety

The pandemic continues to rage. We have good leadership ahead that has promised to take the pandemic seriously--that alone will help to mitigate this terrible virus. In the meantime, the goal is to continue safety precautions in order to prevent spread and try to resist any contagion.

Health

We know how to be healthy. Eat well. Sleep well. Exercise. Drink water. Be safe, and see the doctor when something is amiss. The key is to put healthy routines in place that support this healthy living.

Happiness

It is important to know what makes you happy and healthy, and to engage in those activities regularly.

Frugality

Living a bit beneath your means is a good way to lessen stress in life. A family member taught me that many years ago when my credit card debt was a bit high--I changed my ways and never looked back. Often what we spend too much on, we don't need. To live life in frugal, but generous ways, creates a path to happy living.

Relationships

Rather than material objects, investing in relationships pays off with happy, healthy lives. What relationships mean the most to you? How do you nurture those relationships? Are you ready for some new relationships? How might you connect to new people via your interests, questions, and pursuits?

We can measure our progress related to good living in the year ahead by keeping simple lists, using a scale, checklists, and happiness assessments. Of course there are many other ways to measure this good living success too, and to measure and assess your progress often helps you to stay the course. Onward.
