Long ago after listening to a radio discussion about how to eat at a buffet, I thought about the topic of how to live when we think of the lifestyle buffet life offers us. What is most important and what doesn't matter much at all. Since that time, I've thought a lot about the lifestyle buffet. Just like a buffet at a fancy resort, there are more choices than you can choose, so you have to be discerning--what do you really want?
Relationships
More than anything else, I want to nurture my close family and friend relationships. I love spending time with the people I love. This takes first priority in my lifestyle buffet. It's also important to consider how I want to spend time with the people I love. As I think of that, I want to be there when they need me and I want to enjoy our times together. I also want to support my loved one's life choices and happiness. We don't have to be together all the time, but when we get together, I want that time to be meaningful, memorable, and positive as much as possible.
Good times
I love the good times life affords. I want to have the space and resources to be able to afford some good times throughout the year. These good times give us something to look forward to, and good times together.
Healthy living
I want my life to have the time, space and resources for healthy living--I want to live in a place where I can walk, ride my bike, and swim. I also want to live in a safe place, and a place where I can garden or buy locally grown fruits and vegetables.
A warm, welcoming home
I want a home that is warm and welcoming, and a home that has enough space to easily welcome my very large extended family.
These are my main choices for the lifestyle buffet. What are your top priorities?
