Lately I've turned a corner in that I disagree with almost every public commentary related to the news of our day. That's a strange and unpopular place to be. How did I arrive here?
In many ways, I believe that society has changed more than I have. News shows, more and more, focus on quick-fix, star-power, superficial stories--there's little in-depth reporting. It seems to me that too many shows, commentators, and conversations are dead-end, surface, and meant to excite rather than inform. I'm not that interested in what the world's very wealthy, popular folk think or desire especially when they are being asked to share their views on topics they know little to nothing about and also because their glamorous lifestyles are so distanced from what most of us experience.
Instead, I'm interested in stories and examples of good living. People who truly work for betterment for themsleves and others, people with empathy, compassion, and care.
The good news is that this sudden disinterest in almost every popular newstory is directing me back to my own life with greater depth and perspective. There's a lot to do right here at home and in my community that matches my long held views of what is right and good for humanity and society. That's where I'm drawn right now.
