In every day we see glimpses of our future, and when we like those glimpses, we tend to work to make those a mainstay of the days to come.
A few nights ago, my son and his fiance came to dinner. It had been many pandemic months since they ate indoors with us. I knew I missed our intimate dinners, but then when we finally sat down and shared a good meal, I realized just how much I had missed the opportunity to connect in such a personal, comfortable, and caring way. I knew that this was a glimpse of a future I want, a future that includes lots of intimate gatherings with the people I love.
On a similar note, a friend shared the details of her family life. This is a good friend who I looke forward to hearing from regularly. As I listened to her tales, I realized how much I enjoy having this friend in my life and how much I like hearing the stories of her family members. As the years go by, I want to continue to make this friend an important part of my life--I want to continue to hear the stories of her family and engage in their celebrations too.
A few updates in our home and the home of a loved one made the places more welcoming and inviting. This too is something I desire today and into the future--the theme of a warm, welcoming home continues to be an important thread in my existence. I want to continually work at this goal. It's not about a fancy house, but instead the kind of home you can relax in, put your feet up, and feel welcome.
There have been experiences too that I don't want in my future. I want as little conflict as possible, and and want to work for greater collaboration instead. I like what teams can do, and I don't like what conflict can do in tough situations. I also want honesty in my life--lies and disinformation take up time in life, good time that can be used for far more honorable and worthy living. And, I want life to be as simple as possible so I have more time for the rich, wonderful experiences possible.
As we look at our lives today, we see glimpses of what we want our lives to be like tomorrow. It's good to embrace the images we see and work to include those events, people, and places more in our lives more. Onward.
