I'm glad that a day was set aside for to celebrate mothers. As a mom, I am ever so grateful for this role in life. I simply loved having children and raising them--I still love getting together and connecting with my children in any way that I can. I'm also grateful for having a mom who is approaching her 91st birthday--that means I've had a mom my entire life. That's amazing. I am also grateful for all those individuals in life who have played the "mom" role to me and others--you don't have to birth a baby to be a good mom, but instead you have to be a nurturing individual who makes the time to deeply care for and support others. As with all categories, I like the broadest definition of mothers as those who nurture and care for others.
On this Mother's Day 2021, I'll celebrate by taking a woodsy hike with family members and enjoying an outdoor lunch with my mom and other family members. It will be good to come together, and fortunately it is a beautiful sunny day here--a perfect day for a hike and outdoor lunch.
Mother's Day reminds me of the goals I have for myself as a mom which are goals based in supporting my family in every way that I can--knowing how to best support each family member is always a work in progress as we all grow and change, but for the most part as a mom of young adults it means being present with good listening and apt response. I want to support the best of who they are and what they want to be. I also want to be there during the rough spots to offer support and help as I can.
I wish mothers everywhere a Happy Mother's Day, and I wish those who struggle as moms for any reason right now an especially peaceful and inspiring day. If our country aims to support moms in every way possible, we will definitely build a better world. Onward.
