Humility

Humility is good for us. I wrote about that long ago during an excrutiating experience when I was humbled greatly. To be humbled greatly helps us to see life with greater clarity. This also helps us to live life with greater promise and potential.

So as I embrace humility today, I am thinking about how to embrace the vulnerability that comes with it. To be greatly humbled is like standing naked on Main St. There's nothing to hide behind and your weaknesses, challenges, and struggles are glaring.

This is who I am

So to accept this deep humility, you have to basically say to yourself and the world, "This is who I am--this is the combination of goods and bads I am made up of, but know that it is my goal to be the best that I can be for myself, for others, and for my community." You essentially have to accept your challenges as well as your will to move forward to be what you can be and do what you can do in a humble, quiet, positive way.

Gather with those who give you strength

When greatly humbled, it is essential that you gather with those who give you good strength. These are not people who try to hide your humility or lie about your shortcomings, but instead empathetic, honest, good people who understand we're all a mix of good and not-so-good. These are earnest individuals who seek to live their own lives with as much truth, humility, care, and concern as possible. Good people strengthen us, lead us, and help us to be the best that we can be.

Let your heart guide you

To be better doesn't mean that you can't be who you are--we are all called to be different people, and it is essential that we let both our hearts and minds guide us forward. Find the best of who you are and let that lead you ahead. What is it that you have to give to others, and how can you best share those gifts in ways that empower and enrich your life and the lives of others?

Time out

We can't be seeking and stretching at every minute. This is why good patterns and routine in life give us strength--if we take the time to carve out a good routine and make a good setting for life, we'll naturally achieve the goals we aim for. When you're not achieving in ways that you're satisfied with, it is likely that you have to relook at your routines and setting as there's probably something amiss. As part of your setting and routine, find time and place for time out too--time when you can simply relax and be present.

Humility is good for us even though it's not always pleasant. Embracing that humility is a positive way to move ahead in life. Onward.
