Losing Friends

I essentially lost two friends this month. They're still around, but due to factors out of my control, the friendships have changed considerably. There is a sense of loss, but also the challenge to rethink these relationships and to change our connection in ways that work for the new reality, a reality affected by health, place, needs, and interests.

Losing friends is a painful experience, and one that leads us to all kinds of reflection and thought. It's good to experience this as it makes us more empathetic to our students, friends, and family members when they experience similar loss and change in their lives. Life is always changing, and at some points there is more change than other times. It's important to ride these waves of life with good intent, effort, and vision--that gives us the resiliency and direction we need.
