As noted many times before, I was willing to be open minded to Trump's leadership even though I disagreed with the political tactics he used throughout the campaign--tactics of bullying, name calling, discrimination, and oppression.
Some of the problems Trump grandstanded are big problems in the United States--problems that people have been unwilling to tackle in modern, positive ways such as too-high health costs, seemingly unworkable immigration policies, and a need for good jobs and a good wage across the country. By use of repetitious negative name calling, brash demeanor, angry catchy marketing slogans, and the assistance of Russian hackers, Trump's message hit home for the many Americans who voted for him--Americans who seem to want to step back in time by negating our tremendous diversity, environmental issues, financial inequity, health care/education costs/complexity, and potential to move forward in promising ways.
While Trump's support numbers appear to continually spiral down, he still has supporters. It's difficult for me to understand why some would support such a mean President who spends a great deal of time bullying people everywhere. Rather than stand up with respect for issues that matters, he spends a lot of time distracting the American public with negative slogans, name-calling, and seemingly mistruths, threats, and exaggerations. Why do Americans stand for that? Why do those that work closest to him stand for that--what promise do they think he holds for our country?
While I can't understand his support, and I don't know why people would support such a repulsive leader, I do know that we have big issues to tackle in our country, and if we use the best and brightest minds as well as the voice and choice of all American people, we will move ahead in ways that matter.
Put Children and Aging Americans First
With policies, we need to see through the lenses of aging Americans and children--what can we do as a country to support them in ways that matter. How a country treats its aging citizens and children signals the future that country will face
Seek Peace, Not War
We have to work with global partners to make peace rise. I believe the intelligence, creativity, and drive for this exists, but what's missing is good global partnerships and collective efforts to let peace rise. Trump has proved himself to not be a collaborative partner on the global front, and this is a big problem for all global citizens including Americans.
Protect Earth
We have to take the research of scientists seriously and look for ways to protect Earth's resources. There are so many creative technologies out there that can change the way we live so that we sustain the Earth's resources, and we should be accessing and forwarding those technologies. Rather than a war against other countries, we should join forces with countries across the globe and war against environmental issues to protect Earth.
Fund Research and Development
The government should fund worthy research and development to sustain Earth and provide basic rights of health, education, housing, nutritious food, clean water, and peaceful communities--we can do this, but our researchers need support.
Make Fair Immigration Laws Through Peaceful Process
First of all, immigration would not be an issue if there wasn't inequity, lawlessness, greed, and oppression throughout the world. In many cases, the reason for immigration lies in the greed of richer, more powerful countries and people that pillage less wealthy countries' land, people, and resources. We should work with global partners to raise up the standard of living, education, and health care throughout the world--if that happens, immigration will be less of an issue. Most people want to stay in their country of birth if they can live there peacefully there. Next we have to truly study immigration issues and laws in the United States. Much of the hype that President Trump forwards is false and plays upon our primitive, discriminatory prejudices and beliefs. People have to begin to understand the complexity that the immigration issue is, and then work for positive change with local communities and the Federal Government. Perhaps a state-by-state effort is the way to go since the issue brings with it such complexity and challenge.
Embrace the Amazing Potential of Diversity
We are a diverse people. There should be no room for oppression or prejudice in this regard. We need to reach out to provide opportunities and expect responsibility from all peoples in our country, and name calling, prejudicial statements/acts, and inequity should not be tolerated.
Laws, Policies, and Taxation
Good government protects the rights of all. When everyone pays their share and laws/policies are mostly made by public bodies, there is a greater chance for a peaceful, free, and prosperous state. When only the rich receive benefits and they are left to lead all the people, anarchy begins to occur. To lead well requires the voice and choice of all people working together to better their community, provide basic needs and good services, support public education, and lift their communities up in ways that benefit the human condition and experience of life.
Jobs
There are countless opportunities to create positive jobs that forward our country in ways that matter rather than return us to a time that no longer exists. There should be a fair minimum wage for all workers and we should look for ways to create new jobs so that everyone has a chance to make that fair wage.
Health Care and Education
I support free health care and education for all people, and I believe that should be supported through taxation. There are countless ways to better these systems so that they don't break the bank, and in some cases, people are going to have to let go of privilege in order to lift these areas up to create a better country. First of all why is medical school so difficult to get into--we should be training more doctors so that we have more skilled medical personnel to take care of all the health needs that exist. We should also find ways to streamline health care for the simplest and most common health issues while spending money on the more complex and grave issues. I wonder if we would save money if every school also included a health center that regularly treated and served students with funding from health budgets rather than school budgets.
It appears that President Trump does not pay his share of taxes for all the billions he has. He also makes money off his Presidency by hosting events and dignitaries at his private clubs. To me, this seems unethical. He has spent more, as I read, in his recreational expenses and family expenses than most or all Presidents before him, and it appears that he mostly makes decisions on the basis of how he can best serve other rich White men and women like himself. He demonstrates little to no care about the common American and less care about women and anyone who does not share his skin shade, family background, wealth, and life philosophy.
As you can tell, I do not support President Trump at all. My daily reaction to him is to do what I can in my own life and work to forward equity, inclusion, and reaching to support the potential of those I work with, serve, and love.
It is a difficult time in America. Trump in many ways is like an infected sore that just keeps getting worse. He takes time away from all the good that can be done, and all the positivity that's possible. I am thankful to all who are trying with respect and intelligence to move against his willful, oppressive, and demeaning ways. Onward.
