I watched the Stormy Daniels interview on 60 Minutes last night, and my gut reaction was sadness. I was sad that a mom of a young girl has been so exposed to the public, and I was sad that the mother of a young girl kept company with Donald Trump, a very powerful man who, I believe, lacks humanity and puts his own self/wealth first.
I've done a bit of research on the pornography industry and nothing about that industry elevates me or makes me feel hopeful or positive. I believe that those who engage in that business sell themselves short, and often those that enter that business come from troubled homes and tough times. In my opinion, it is a depressing business that puts both women and men at risk in multiple ways. I feel bad for those who engage in that industry as I believe they can do better.
I also do not honor those that support the adult entertainment industry with their patronage or exploitation of individuals involved in the industry. It appears that Trump was thinking only of his own self gratification when he became involved with this woman--he clearly was not thinking about what was best for her, and later, aware of his unworthy choice, it seems that he worked with his lawyer to foster a nondisclosure contract so that no one would know about his bad choice right before the election.
Stormy's choices are also questionable, but given her profession and likely tough life overall, it's clear to see that she had little to no power in this situation--Trump with his money, power, and cronies had much more power in this situation and was wielding that power to get what he wanted which was to rid his reputation of his times with Stormy.
I guess the bottom line for me in this situation is that we have to beware of the company we keep and what we endorse. If you watch pornography, you support an industry that exploits people. If you engage in relationships for your own gratification rather than with the thoughts of a good relationship in mind, you exploit the individuals you engage with. If you're afraid to own up to your actions and have to create non disclosure contracts then you're someone who has to face your questionable choices and actions--we should all be willing to own our actions, and work to act in ways we are proud of with no need of hiding what we do.
People make mistakes. People make bad choices. People have tough lives. People deserve forgiveness, but in general, this situation is one more piece of evidence that the President demonstrates poor character and little regard for the lives of others--he continually appears to choose his own self/wealth over the needs, interests, and values of others. This is worrisome.
With regard to Stormy, it's hard to know what to think. I can't judge--I didn't live her life or make her choices. I do know though that sometimes people get caught in paths that are truly harmful to themselves and their families. Hopefully she can move ahead from this to a better life, a life without fear, and a life where she puts her young daughter's needs first. She certainly has displayed courage in the face of this trouble. Onward.
