When I'm Older

It's hard to predict how we'll age or even if we'll have the opportunity to age--we don't truly know what life has in store for us, but as I watch those around me getting older, is see actions I'm hope to emulate and those that I'd rather not embrace.

What do I value?

First, it seems to me that as we age and if we live on modest means, the less things we have, the easier it will be to afford life and take care of our possessions. So less is more.

Also, it seems to me that it's good to choose a few activities that you really enjoy and invest in those activities with friends, time, and purchases. For example, let's say you like to paint, play cards, bowl, or golf--make time to join with friends to develop that pastime.

Volunteering when possible seems like a good choice too--it's important to be out there taking care of others so you don't become too self absorbed.

Don't accrue too many debts as those debts will serve as anchors later on.

Create a warm, welcoming home that's inviting to those you love and care for. Living in a simple place that allows you to walk more than drive seems like a good idea too.
