Years ago at a round table at Google, change makers from multiple disciplines shared what they valued most. By far, these notable people expressed the fact that time with family and friends trumped all other aspects of life.
If those people, people who are responsible for wonderful inventions, businesses, organizations, processes, and service, all agreed that family is first does that mean if we surveyed all people, the same priority would rise to the top?
If family first is what the people of our country desire, then why aren't we more vocal about supporting that priority with more family friendly policies and supports such as less time at work, better minimum wages, beautiful places to live and recreate, optimal health plans, nutritious food, and safe communities?
Do we value one thing, but support another when it comes to politics and policies? Do we really consult our souls about what we value and then use those values to energize our efforts related to leadership support and advocacy?
I think there may be a mismatch between what we truly value and what we support as a people. Do you agree? If so, how can we do better in this regard?
