We all know and have read about broken people. It's possible that we too have been broken from time to time.
No matter how heinous the crime or abuse, I still feel bad for broken people. I ache for their pain and the grave pain they have caused others.
Typically broken people have a history of being broken--broken by abuse, broken by oppression, broken by isolation and a dearth of support.
As I think today, I am thinking about how we can prevent people from breaking. How can we prevent abuse, rid the culture of oppression, create community, and elevate support for the many that are distanced from the love, care, and kindness that helps to make people whole.
We can do better as a society, and everyone of us plays a role in this betterment. Our efforts can start small and build over time. The love begins at home, then work and the neighborhood, and after that the greater community.
We must not become disheartened, but instead we must push forward by giving what we can when we can. This is the call of humanity, and this is the drive of good people everywhere.
