What are you working for?

As you consider the way you spend time, energy, and dollars, the question arises, "What are you working for?"

I pondered this question today as I thought about the limitations of time, energy, and dollars as well as the dreams and hopes I have for myself and my loved ones. I thought about what's important to me and how does that drive me forward in time.

As I considered this, I realized that what I like most is to be surrounded by those I love and to share wonderful adventures and time with the people I care about. I also like to devote my time to meaningful work and endeavor. That stands first as I consider my course.

Then I considered how we make this happen--how do we put aside time to be with those with love and to enjoy meaningful events. What do we do?

As I get older and the family expands, I think it's important to set aside time in the year for regular reunions--times that everyone can count on to come together and have fun. Of course there are events over time that bring people together such as anniversaries, marriages, and holidays. That's a natural time for coming together. But as families get bigger, that doesn't always work out.

And even when we do set aside time, it doesn't always work out given new relationships and the addition of new family/friend traditions along the way.

In the end though, it's important to know what we're working for and it's important to consider what we are doing that is meaningful to us in this regard.
