Today I have the luxury of a day with no big have-to's, a day to relax and think back and ahead about what's important and where I am headed in this life of mine.
As I think ahead to 2019, I recognize that some of what will occur is within my control and some is not. With that in mind, I am focused on what's most important within my control--where will I spend my time and attention?
The list of priorities remains the same as in years past including a warm welcoming home, teaching math and science well, building and contributing to a strong learning community near and far, finding time to enjoy life with people I love, and making time to read, research, think, and write. Those are the mainstays of what I hope for and will support in 2019.
Surprises will include the twists and turns of life that face me and my loved ones--twists and turns in relationships, jobs, health, finances, and fun. Where will people go? What jobs will they pursue? Who will they spend their time with? What challenges will we face? We can't predict all of that, but we can make a commitment to support those we love as those twists and turns appear--to be there to offer our care, camaraderie, and ideas too if invited or inspired to do so.
The quest to simplify also remains a mainstay of my existence with the mantra, less things-more time, leading me ahead. I love the way you can quickly clean up your home or classroom when you have less things. I love the lack of worry you have when there's few things to weigh you down. This simplicity draws me.
And knowledge is a quest too. I find that the more I understand about the world around me and the topics that call me, the better I'm able to navigate those spheres in meaningful ways. I am ever thankful for my amazing Twitter PLN of thousands of bright, inspiring people whose ideas, questions, and links lead me forward each day with greater knowledge and thought about the life I lead and the world I live in. I am every thankful for the Internet and the quick ease with which I can research subjects of choice and questions that interest me. That quick access to knowledge has made a significant difference in my quality of life and I appreciate that.
Further, the quick access to amazing music and beautiful places continually inspires me too. There's a limitless array of resources available to enrich life, and I enjoy the challenge of utilizing those resources to enrich my life in ways that matter.
2019 will be a good year--a year of digging into good work at school, supporting and enjoying good friends and family members, and reading, writing, and advocating for betterment in multiple areas to enrich my own life and the lives of others.
There's much to look forward to and much to do in the days ahead. I wish all who read my posts a promising year ahead too--a year where they invest in who they are and what they desire to be. Onward.
