Thanksgiving caught me a bit off guard this year since there were so many family changes. I didn't anticipate the emotions and logistics related to these changes. We had a good holiday, but I think we all felt a bit of sadness with regard to lost family members and changing traditions. There was a bit of trepidation too with regard to new relationships and traditions as well. All in all it was a wonderful holiday, one that I am grateful for.
With Christmas and New Year's Eve right around the corner, I'm anticipating more of the same--the sadness that comes with recent losses as well as the excitement and trepidation that comes with new traditions.
What will we do?
We'll spend some special times with long time friends. We'll support and attend long held family traditions. We'll share the intimacy and celebration with close relatives and host a festive party for many family members.
The focus will be on togetherness and taking care of one another. Gifts will be a small part of the overall holiday season. We'll look to the family's youngest members to light the way with happiness and enthusiasm as we enter this season of joy. Happy Holidays!
