As I think about forwarding lessons related to teamwork in school today, I'm also thinking about the weekend which will essentially be a weekend that focuses on the family team. What does that mean?
It means that many family members will gather together to cheer one family member on, share a meal, and probably share a few adventures too.
Like all families, my family continues to evolve and change, but my desire to love, support, and strengthen our family ties remains. As a family, my role as an older member, is to support the younger members in their quickly changing and very active lives. They are making lots of decisions at this turn in the road, and what matters to me is that their choices are positive and life enriching. I hope they use that good, young energy to build positive lives for themselves and others. Rather than a leader as I might have been when my children were young, I am now much more of a cheerleader who listens with care, carefully offers advice if asked, and supports their decisions and needs as I can.
I'll be thinking a lot about this role as I engage in my children's activities and interests with their friends and other family members. In our world today, and perhaps always, a sense of team is critical. It's impossible for most if not all to successfully navigate the complex world we live in without a sense of team and teamwork. When we lovingly team with good energy, intent, and skill, we create a stage for good living. That's where my focus is today and into the weekend. Let's see what I learn.
