The Ten Year View

Sometimes current decisions profit from the ten-year view. That means having a good idea about where you would like to be in ten-years, and then making the choice today.

For example, if you're deciding between one job and another, if you only consider what you want or need today, your decision may be shortsighted, but if you consider where you hope to be in ten years, then you might make a wiser choice.

Of course none of us can exactly know what life events will happen in the future, but planning your dream life for the next ten years and leaving some room for the unexpected helps you to make a wise choice today.

As you plan, you can actually visualize your life down the road--where you'll live, whom you'll live with, what you'll be doing, and what you won't be doing. Then you can work backwards to your current situation and fill in the blanks of how you'll spend your money, make money, and invest your time and energy with people, places, and pursuits.

Making time to create the 10-year plan now and then can really help you to right the road in ways that matter.
