I ache when I think of the pain families have endured when loved ones have died in service to our country. I know how much love and care goes into raising a child, and I can only imagine the pain that family members feel when young lives end, lives that hold such wonderful promise and potential for the years ahead.
I am mostly not a fan of war or violent conflict of any kind--I am a fan of working for peace with our time, creativity, and intelligence. I believe that we don't believe in peace enough, and have not tapped our good intelligence or creativity enough when it comes to international relations and the future of our world. I hold that there is limitless potential for woking together to better conditions of life and peaceful living on Earth. Our greatest obstacle, in my opinion, is that lack of trust in what we can do to create a peaceful and harmonious Earth.
As a mother of a son who serves in the military, I am always worried that he will have to go to battle. That is one more reason why I do not support our callous leader, President Trump, and his self-serving cronies. I do not believe they have the best interests of the people of the United States in mind, but instead work to forward their own wealth, popularity, and power. I believe that good leaders think of our military sons and daughters as their own, and work with the best and brightest individuals out there to forward peace as much as they can. Those are leaders who look for win-win solutions related to development, rather than self-serving solutions.
On this Memorial Day, my heart and mind is with those families who have lost a loved one or whose loved one has met with great suffering as the result of military service. I love the fact that I live in a country with mostly fair laws and good freedom for all--a country that has the great potential to uplift lives no matter what your religion, culture, skin shade, background, gender, or interests are--a country whose law of the land regards all people as equal.
To honor those who gave their lives, I'll do what I can to support the fundamental laws and creed of our land in meaningful ways, and I'll do what I can to work against those who abuse and misuse our country's creed--people who serve self over country and who disregard the laws that they are tasked to follow, laws that help to keep our military safe and their efforts purposeful with an eye on peace rather than war. Onward.
