Recognize significance

We have to stop and recognize significance. These points of reflection and celebration are integral to the good living and loving we aim to do.

What moments in life are significant, and how do we recognize those events?

Significance comes in all kinds of accomplishment and events.

Significance include engagements, marriages, graduations, completion of big projects/initiatives, sports wins, overcoming challenges, and more. Significance also includes celebrations of lives well lived or roles well played.

How we celebrate these moments of significance vary too. For some significance, a shared meal is the perfect celebration and for others a thoughtful note, related gift, or special trip are the perfect ways to celebrate. When we think of how to celebrate, we want to think about the event itself as well as the memories and encourage the celebration the significance will foster.

For example, to celebrate my niece's art installation, the result of a great investment of time, learning, and talent, I want to write her a special note and give her a gift that will continue to inspire the art she creates and the loving, artistic energy she brings to others and our world. For my sister-in-law's fiftieth birthday, I want to acknowledge the good life she's lived and the many she has bolstered and supported along the way. For Father's Day I want to acknowledge my husband's love of sport and my father's love of family, and for my cousin's graduation, I want to give her some money and words to support her college journey and the many positive decisions she's made so far.

Everyone achieves points of significance both formal and informal. We have to be mindful of those we love, and make sure that we acknowledge their good work and efforts--to celebrate their significance regularly and authentically. This is important to the good lives and community we enjoy. Onward.
