In many corners of America, people are asking two questions:
- Should we impeach Donald Trump?
- Is there clear, concise, accurate evidence to impeach President Trump?
The challenge with answering these questions lies in the fact that we are in an information age where information true and false is everywhere--so much information that it's difficult for any one person or group of people to dissect it all to figure out what's true and what's not true, and what matters and what doesn't matter.
Look at how much it cost us to support Mueller's investigation? That's not surprising since he and his team had to wade through tremendous amounts of information and laws to figure out what exactly happened. They reached the unsurprising conclusion that Russia did use its information war, a war that utilized information in untruthful, exaggerated, and misleading ways, to favor Donald Trump's candidacy over Hillary Clinton. His conclusion also tied the Trump campaign to Russia's information wars, but not in a way that convicted Donald Trump--that's left to be unraveled and proven either true or false.
So how can a congress, relatively small in numbers, time, and capacity as compared to the information landfill that exists, decide if they have the facts and figures to impeach President Trump?
I think we may all need to help them out by #crowdsourcingimpeachment which means that everyone and anyone who has clear evidence about how and why Trump has been unfaithful to his oath of office, can crowdshare with this hashtag including the evidence related to his infidelity, links to support that evidence, and the rationale about why that proves he's not in keeping with the United States Constitution.
Now many will balk at this by saying they are not lawyers, their voices don't matter, he'll never be impeached anyways, or he doesn't deserved to be impeached, but I believe that congress needs help with this and the American people can help by sharing the evidence, the links, and the connections as to why he should or should not be impeached. Let's put the conversation out there and see what comes of it.
My fear in not dealing with this issue is that if President Trump's misdemeanors do add up to working against our United States Constitution, the law of the land, he will certainly have opened the door to greater corruption and less democracy going forward. If we don't deal with this, we put our nation at risk. On the other hand, we're dealing with an information glut like no one has ever dealt with before--the Internet is filled with truths, lies, exaggeration, manipulation, and more--how can any small group of very busy people dissect all of this. It will take all of us.
So read the Mueller report, read the United States Constitution, read other fact-worthy, honest reports, study the facts, stats, and figures, and work to #crowdsourceimpeachment - let's see what rises. Our country depends on all of us.
