This beautiful image represents a dream I have, a dream shared by many that I love. |
I'm a big fan of dreams as I believe that dreams both root us and move us ahead in life. Good dreams root us because those dreams provide a sense of confidence since we have a good idea about where we are going, and for the same reason, good dreams provide us with a path to the future. I've been thinking a lot about my dreams and where I'm headed in the days ahead recently. While I'm not exactly sure about what life holds for me, I do know that my dreams forward me in the these directions:
A new home
In time I'll likely either remake my home or purchase a new home. While I truly love the natural setting of my current home, I don't like its distance from coffee shops, libraries, and local cultural events. I'm not a big fan of cars, so I desire a home with optimal walkability and proximity to terrific public transportation. I also want to have a home that has a good inside-outside flow, proximity to beautiful natural spaces, and a relatively simple, small home. In many ways, if time and money permit, I want to purchase a home that's a great place to be at peace, read, learn, contribute, and host my children and grandchildren. Let's see where that takes me.
Few things
This path to a new home means that in the near future, I'll be getting rid of most of the things in my current home. I need few things to be happy and have found that less things means more time, and I value time over things. So the days ahead mean few purchases and giving away/getting rid of the extra items in my house.
Health
Of course health is very important to my future. I want to be able to chase grandchildren around the yard, walk to beautiful places, and enjoy less doctor's bills. I'd like to live a long life, and I know that health is a key to that.
Good work and contribution
Nothing makes me happier than to complete good work and contribution to others. I like to solve problems, create positive situations, and make a difference in ways that I can. I like the creativity and positivity involved in this.
A better world
I hate lost potential, and the fact that everywhere I look I see opportunity for betterment, makes me want to work for a better world. I hate to see people and places stuck in time when there is the opportunity to make better in countless life enriching ways. I'll do what I can to work for a world that uses better process, communication, think, and ideas to forward life for all, not just a few. I hate to see unnecessary suffering, and I know that as a world people, we can do better.
Novelty
I also really enjoy learning and experiencing new ideas, places, and people, so I'll likely seek out that kind of novelty.
Dreams have led my life since my earliest days. I make the time to imagine and think about life today and what life tomorrow might be. This dream work involves a fair amount of compromise and revision too since my dreams involve those I love so I have to consider their needs and interests, and my dreams have and still involve many paths which means you are always making decisions about what's more important. Prioritizing can be challenging because you can never be all or do all so in a sense as you embrace new paths, you're always leaving other paths behind. The most challenging decision in that regard during my life so far has been my deep work with family and school which, at times, has meant less time for friends and neighbors. Bottom line, however, is that you can't do it all.
What does your dreamscape look like? What will you do to make that a reality in the days and years ahead?
