When people think of cleaning, spring cleaning comes to mind, but generally, spring is a very busy time in schools and it's also often a hot time when I feel less inclined to clean. These crisp fall days leading up to the holidays are good days for cleaning--days to sort through paperwork, organize clothing and other objects, and make the home cozy for the winter months, months when you spend a lot of time indoors.
As I organize, sort, and clean, it's natural to think about what you need and what you don't need. For example, as I sorted through the linen closet, there were a number of blankets and sheets we no longer need. I packaged them up to give away should anyone want them. The garage is filled with old toys--too used to give away, tools we no longer use or need, and various other outdated and no longer useful items that are ready for recycling or the trash.
All that cleaning takes time, but truly makes you feel good as less things means more time for what you love to do and whom you love to be with.
