When I was a little girl, I spent a lot of time designing wedding dresses, wedding parties, and my future family. My friends and I would color in those pictures and name our children time and again. I loved imagining my future with drawings and words.
Today, I am especially remembering that because I'm about to go wedding dress shopping with my son's fiance. She kindly invited me to join her wedding party and mom for this women-only event. In part, I believe she included me because I don't have a daughter and she wanted me to be apart of this typically female part of wedding preparation.
I like writing about and sharing aspects of family life because I like to hear what others have to say, and I like to be able to look back at the twists and turns of family life. It's exciting to have a wedding ahead, and as I've noted in past posts, I believe we must make time to celebrate life's special events. Also, I'm still a big fan of weddings--I have enjoyed a good marriage for 31 years. It has been a positive union and good place to raise children, spend time with our parents and siblings, and support one another in good times and bad. I wish my son and his wife-to-be, the same good fortune and happiness.
So today, I'll simply enjoy a day of beautiful dresses, wedding talk, and city shopping, walking, and talking. It's another turn on the family story--one I want to enjoy one step at a time.
