The Christmas 2019 season has started. It will be a season of new and old traditions. It started last weekend with Sister-weekend, a celebration my sister and I have started to begin the season with a weekend in Boston. It was great to walk all over the city, see the Seaport tree lighting, enjoy good food, and stay in a nice hotel. My sister and I stay in touch regularly, but don't get to see each other that often--so this is a tradition we look forward to.
I'll miss our long-held extended family part this year, and spend a weekend with my son and his fiance and her family to enjoy each other's company in a beautiful setting and do some wedding planning too. The wedding-to-come is a celebratory event that we're all looking forward too. This year I'm starting a new tradition with my female cousins, sister, sister-in-laws, mother, aunts, and others just before Christmas. It's a chance to connect with family members I've loved and enjoyed being with my whole life.
Christmas Eve will find us visiting loved ones, and Christmas Day will be our turn to host more family members. In the days ahead I'll prepare the house for the holiday celebrations, and I'll get ready to serve a good meal to all who are coming. The days following the holiday will be a time to visit with many friends and relatives who plan to visit and/or stay with us, and then at the end of the vacation, we'll celebrate with more family members.
It's a busier than usual holiday season since so many family members are spread out--what will make it special is to be prepared to enjoy each other's company and do our part with the baking, meal preparation, gifts, and support as needed. Onward.
