Holiday Preparations

I got up this morning and had a choice of correcting math tests or cooking for my visiting family members. I put the school work on hold, and prepared breakfast and lunch foods. The house smells good and my family members awoke with smiles. One way to meet my holiday theme, a warm and welcoming home.

Next, I'll do that last minute shopping to purchase a few gifts, pick up some groceries, and attend to a few more errands to prepare for more visiting relatives and family celebrations. This is a holiday when we'll mostly be home or traveling nearby to share the festivities with friends and family new and old. It will be a holiday of both new traditions and old--it's those traditions that create the good memories and bring us together.

As for traditions of old, we'll gather as an extended family, exchange gifts at a yankee swap, and share a meal that almost everyone contributes too. As for new traditions, I'll have an open house brunch for my female relatives, enjoy Christmas Eve with my son's fiancee's family, welcome my children's friends for a few days, and travel to visit relatives out of town at the far end of the holiday. The two-week school vacation is a real bonus this year--truly time to celebrate with family and enjoy some relaxation afterwards.

A good holiday to come, a holiday to prepare for today.
