Walking across hot coals

I've put myself in a position where I'll metaphorically walk across a path of hot coals. I've never done this before, but I'm going to do it because it is the right thing to do. Sometimes, we simply have to put ourselves in a compromising position for a higher cause, a better aim, and the general welfare simply because it is a stepping stone to the kind of improvement you believe in and are committed to.

As I think of this decision, I realize that a lot of who we are is what we were exposed to be and taught in our lives. Each of us will have some gaps in that upbringing--gaps simply because no one can be exposed to all the possibilities, and gaps because of changing times and context too. We are continually re-crafting who we are and where we are headed. All the while we tend to hold on to traditions that matter, retire activities that no longer hold meaning, and add new and better avenues for good living.

It's important to take time to think deeply about who you aim to be and why you want to be that person, and then move in that direction. Onward.
