What will you do for yourself and others in 2020?

I just read a tweet noting that 2020 will be a good year, and as I read the tweet I realized that if we all commit to doing well for ourselves and others in 2020, it will be a good year. With that in mind, what good acts will I commit to?

A Warm and Welcoming Home
I want my home to be as warm and welcoming as possible. That means keeping it clean and lean. It's always nice to visit a clean home and when your home is lean, it's much easier to keep clean. Our small spaces are welcoming too. I want my family members and friends to always feel at home in our house, and I want them to feel like they can come here to relax, be at peace, and be loved whenever they need or desire that warmth.

To do list:

  • purge, purge, and purge some more
  • deep cleaning and reorganization
  • an open schedule for welcoming others

Healthy Lifestyle
Thanks to the efforts of so many, it seems that healthy living is widely embraced. Our family is committed to this and in 2020 we'll increase our efforts in this way with healthy activities, healthy food, and healthy self care and schedules.

  • positive daily routine
  • healthy foods
  • positive, healthy activity

Celebrate the Good Times
We'll look for ways to celebrate the good times of those we love with parties at home and gatherings elsewhere. We want our friends and family members to be celebrated and embraced as much as possible as we know that builds strength, warmth, and love.

  • birthdays, anniversaries, weddings. . . . . .

Generosity
As much as possible, I want to give things away--I want to live with less things, and be as generous to others as I can.

  • seek opportunities to give

Excellence at School
A large part of what I do for others happens at school, and there, I'm committed to teaching with my team in ways that uplift students' abilities and attitudes in ways that empower and enrich their experiences and confidence with a positive, proactive education.

  • stay the good course that we've created
  • continue to learn

Political Advocacy
I will continue to support candidates who advocate for humane policies that lessen life's burdens and heighten voice and choice for all Americans. I desire leaders who will work against bigotry, the huge wealth gap, pollution, inequity with regard to health care, education, and social benefits.

  • support awesome leaders
  • stay informed
  • speak up against injustice
  • continue to learn

Reverence
My one words for the year is reverence and I will commit to that word by first reading the book Just Mercy to initially guide my way.

  • read Just Mercy
  • study the topic
  • practice what you can do to develop this awareness and way of being

To actually meet your goals requires that you schedule the activities--make the goals part of your weekly schedule and special events. How will I do that?
  • Celebrations will include healthy food and activities.
  • The Weekly Schedule will include healthy activity, healthy food, and a dedicated efforts at school.
  • Home Updates will continue to include a purge of unneeded items
  • Free time will include reading Just Mercy, prepping for January teaching/professional learning, and preparing for upcoming celebrations.
