Donald Trump does not mirror my values in any way. His disrespectful words, lies, and manipulation stand as a giant wall to the limitless good possible for our country and the people in it. And for people like me who work in the service industry--an industry with a mission to serve people well, it's disheartening every day to listen to his disrespectful speech, self serving ideas, and prejudicial comments. He clearly is not a man for all, but instead a man for a select few family members and cronies both here in the United States and abroad.
There are so many reasons why he is a poor leader. First, rather than choose the best and brightest for important government positions, he chose friends, family members, and donors, some of who have turned out to be criminals and now sit in jail cells. This is one reason why he's had a revolving door of leadership, and we all know that when there is a revolving door of leadership, nothing good gets done.
He also shows no interest in education, sensible gun laws, environmental protection, health care, culture, the arts, our National Parks, or the country's history. Instead he's all about making the wealthy wealthier, rewarding his wealthy donors with roll-backs of environmental protections and regulations and other such changes to help them make more money, and lessening their taxes.
It's frightening to speak up or out about Trump since he tends to side with world leaders who have human rights violations. If you read the paper and hear of what happens to some of this leaders' associates, it's scary--they clearly are not people who care a lot about others, but instead appear to be most interested in their personal power, fame, ego, and safety. As for the rest of us, we don't matter to them.
I never thought we'd have a President like Trump. I never thought such a selfish, undisciplined, disrespectful person would be in The White House, and even when Trump was elected, I was ready to give him a chance, but his excessive lying, disrespect, and what seems like support of prejudice and hate have made me realize there is no hope that he will change his ways or work to lead our country with good character and values.
He himself has stated that he can do anything he wants and it appears that's what he does with little regard for his oath of office or the laws and protocols related to his role as President of the United States. He has allowed the country's debt to increase substantially and lowered taxes for the wealthy boosting the short term gain in the economy for some, thus creating a false sense of hope since this rise is all based on tremendous debt. Also while some have enjoyed an increase in wages and investments, many are paying more for health care, facing environmental problems, and struggling to provide day care for their children.
Clearly Trump does not represent my value or vision as a human being. Instead, I support those who work for win-win situations without prejudice, hate, or greed. I honor those who uplift the lives of all and show acceptance to all people with the knowledge that we all land somewhere, and where we land is not our choosing, but instead the fate of birth. I honor those who give everyone a chance and work for opportunity for all instead of those who work for just the few they deem valuable or important.
Trump's example can easily take people like me down, down, down because I worry about the way the world will move forward with such a selfish, hateful, and egotistical leader; I worry that we won't be able to regain our sense of pride as a nation as well as our sense of service to one another. I know that we desperately need to give attention and money to many good initiatives in the country to elevate living, initiatives such as support for health care, education, housing, medical care, and recreation is critical to good living, and without a President who cares about the welfare of the people, we will have a lot of work to make-up for during this self-serving Trump reign.
You have to take breaks from leaders who don't share your values and seem to be breaking the expected rules and protocols. You also have to be mindful all the time of leaders like this because they put ambition before collegiality and mission--they are there to get ahead, not necessarily to serve others.
A good schedule of rightly directed efforts also helps one to survive a leader like this. And it's also important to keep evidence of you own efforts, personality, needs, and strengths. So I'll climb out of the Trump hole that I unexpectedly fell into today, and right my direction in the way of service to students and family. Onward.
