Collaborate for the good

News reports demonstrate the money spent to protect the City of Richmond from protestors who have threatened violence. As I watch this, I think of the money spent because some get together with a focus on violence, rather than good. I wonder why groups of people get together in ways that waste tax payer's money and threaten lives. Why do people join groups like that? What are they afraid of? Why do they think that threatening violence is right or good?

I suspect that these mainly white male groups are made up of loners distanced from society due to mental illness, lack of education, and other circumstances that have created their will to join groups focused on hate and violence rather than love and positivity. Most Americans are not looking to change the second amendment, but instead many, including me, are in favor of regulations that make sure there are sensible gun laws in place--the kinds of laws that mirror the laws and policies that regulate driving and owning cars, laws and policies focused on safety.

What many of these macho protestors don't realize is that the gun lobby could care less about them or their lives--the NRA exists to elevate the wealth and power of a few--they are not interested in the good lives of most Americans. Most of these protestors are poor pawns that wealthy gun lobbyists promote and use to elevate their wealth and power.

When we join groups, it is best to join groups that truly are focused on making lives better, not groups that focus their efforts and activity on threatening, dangerous acts. We are not only judged by the company we keep, but we also take on the attributes and personality of the groups we belong to. Let's hope that the good leaders of Virginia's efforts to protect the people from unruly, violence-loving protestors work and that no one is injured today, and let's also hope that those protestors who are merely poor pawns for rich, self-serving, powerful NRA members and others see the truth of their activity and leave groups focused on hate and violence and work for positivity and love instead.
