As I wander my social media streams and engage in political conversations with friends and family members, I am watching people take sides for election 2020. What is motivating their decisions?
Many try to speculate about who can beat Trump, and taking sides with that in mind.
Others are thinking about who will support their personal needs best--who will result in a better paycheck, affordable and accessible health care, quality education, less debt, less violence, safer neighborhoods, environmental protection, greater equality. . . .
Some will not stray from the political party or beliefs they've always had--they have not looked deeper or thought anew about the changes in our country and people since their early years of choosing a party and platform.
And others think more broadly about the issues that they feel are most important for large groups of Americans, not just themselves.
People choose sides for all kinds of reasons.
At present, I am choosing the side of Elizabeth Warren for President of the United States. I am choosing this side for the following reasons:

At present, I am choosing the side of Elizabeth Warren for President of the United States. I am choosing this side for the following reasons:
- She's got great energy and intelligence--we need an energetic, bright leader.
- She has wonderful experience in government--to choose a leader without that experience will slow down the restoration needed in our government--we need someone who knows how the government and laws work.
- She will do the deep, difficult work that's required to right our country in a good direction. Her past experience with unsexy consumer issues shows that she is unafraid to buckle down, read the fine print, and work with others to make positive change. She understands the intricacies of good government and the law. Trump's difficulty in understanding the details of government including his inability to decipher and follow the United States Constitution puts our entire nation at risk.
- She will work with the best and brightest Americans to lead. Unlike Trump who chooses to work with friends and family members with cronyism and nepotism rather than people in the know, Warren knows that intelligence, experience, and the will to serve all Americans matters more than working with yes-men and women who will simply do as the President chooses--Warren knows that no one has the monopoly on smarts, good decisions, and leadership, but instead good leadership is a collaborative act.
- She will restore government to its lawful and just intent. Unlike short-sighted and self-focused Trump, she will follow the laws and make good use of the structure that is in place for just and fair service to the people.
- She is creative and will maximize the good use of tax dollars and government roles to elevate the lives of all Americans. Her campaign clearly shows that she is focused on the kinds of plans that will elevate lives--her plans are well researched, detailed and ready to go. We need this kind of responsive, action-driven leadership.
- She will listen to all groups of people and act on their behalf unlike Trump who seems to prefer what he thinks of as wealthy attractive white women and bigoted white men.
- She will lead with humility. Her apologies to Native American communities demonstrates her ability to lead with humility and to take responsibilty for her actions. Trump leads with lies, irresponsibility, lack of discipline, blaming, shaming, name calling, and a lack of intelligent depth and critical analyses--this puts our whole nation at risk.
I believe that almost all Democratic candidates for President are very good, smart, and positive people who have dedicated their lives to doing well by the American people. Like all of us, none of them are perfect and no one has the monopoly on knowing or being all.
Trump has proved himself to be a bigoted, self-serving, undisciplined, lawless, dull, and weak President who works for the gain for himself and a small number of wealthy cronies and family members in the United States and abroad. The fact that he's maxed out the country's credit with a burdensome debt is a losing proposition for the entire country in the long run. The way he abuses the planet with roll backs of environmental protections and support for industry and policies that wreak havoc with Earth again demonstrate that he leads for today and the short term gains for his cronies and family members rather than what is best for all Americans and people across the globe today and into the future. His will to appear all-knowing, and god-like on the world stage demonstrates his ignorance and lack of ability to work in peace with leaders and people across the globe thus creating unsafe conditions for so many of us day in and day out. He is a troubled man whose narcississm, ignorance, lack of empathy, and will to be king or dictator of the world makes him a great danger to all.

We will all choose sides in the democratic race, and as we choose, the errant #GOP machine will use their lawless ways and dangerous allies across the globe to defame the democratic candidates, trick the American public, slander good people, and work against fair voting rights and our ability to know the truth and act with good knowledge. We must work against their criminal, self-serving behavior, and in doing that, we must fight hard for the candidates we choose, and then when one is selected, we must pool our support for the Democratic candidate for President of the United States.
In the best of situations, Trump will stand for the wayward and dangerous direction a country can take when people are not informed and don't stand up for what is right and good--hopefully he will simply go down in history as a painful lesson about what not to do and who not to be.
It is my hope that election 2020 will be a turning point towards a better USA, one that has learned its lesson with regard to electing lawless, criminal, self-serving leaders whose egos and self-importance override what is right and good for the people.
Do you agree?
