Americans, like me, are dissatisfied, frustrated, and angry that we have such a self-serving, ignorant, and disrespectful President of the United States. His leadership by nepotism and cronyism, the way he skirts and breaks laws, kowtowing to leaders with grave human rights violations, and his persistent lying, name calling, and disrespect lay at the foundation of my dissatisfaction, frustration, and anger.
I have been so proud of the United States throughout my life. I know that there have been problems, but there has never been a leader who has demonstrated the level of bigotry, hatred, lack of discipline, ignorance, and short term, shoddy solutions as President Trump. He clearly puts our nation and people at risk by elevating hate amongst citizens, fracture amongst countries, roll backs of environmental protections, lack of sensible gun laws, and short term financial gains for some while he elevates the national debt to levels that jeopardize our country's strength now and into the future.
President Trump is irresponsible, bigoted, and self-serving--he demonstrates little care or concern for most people in the United States and abroad. He seems to be beholding to errant world leaders that are known for their human rights violations, and he is impressed by great material wealth and popular notions of beauty.
Trump's persistent disrespect has slandered many, incited hate crimes, and is even connected to massacres by people who have been inspired to kill by his words. He does not appear to care at all about education or health care, and does little to make the world a safer, more peaceful place. Trump does not inspire the best in us, but instead serves as an oppressive leader who leads for only a few wealthy cronies and family members--he does not appear to care for most Americans.
His rally calls are full of misinformation, lies, and sensationalism--he appears to be better suited for a role in the theater than that of a serious, people-centered political leader. He acts in opposition to almost all that I've dedicated my life to as a mother, teacher, neighbor, and community member--I want the best for all and seek peaceful solutions while Trump lives with an apparent aim to appear as the best, all knowing, and most loved amongst who he feels are valuable people--people with lots of power and wealth the world over.
I stayed up late to watch the start of the impeachment trial. I was not surprised, but still disheartened, to hear the Trump legal team give trump-like rallying calls filled with broad, general, sensational and often untrue statements to support Trump while the democrats demonstrated time and again with detail, fact, and connection to our good laws and values why Trump's personal and apparently illegal dealings with Ukraine are examples of high crimes and misdemeanors that put our country and people in danger and also exemplified Trump's infidelity to his oath of office.
I am inspired by Schiff and the other Impeachment Managers who respectfully argue their position with detail and fact--these are a diverse group of Americans who are standing up for what our country values--a country for the people by the people. I am disheartened and surprised that 53 Republicans are willing to sit quietly by and accept our errant President's ways--I can't understand why they would simply sell out our country. Is it because they are afraid? Is it because they have been engaged in corruption themselves? Are they simply apathetic and doing what suits their personal lives best? Whatever the reason, they are disappointing, worrisome, and problematic with regard to our good country's future--the lives of our children and grandchildren.
I'm not sure what will happen, but I am proud to stand up for what is right and good for this country, and I have no doubt that the bigoted, lawless, and ignorant Trump team is not good for the United States of America--he has taken our country down for the short term gains of a few and has jeopardized our long term strength, peace, and values. We can do better. We must do better, and we can't let the Trump team fool and manipulate us. Onward.
