Since my earliest days, I've been thinking about the bigger world. I'm a dreamer and as a child I spent many a day creating communities with blocks, little people, and other figurines. I loved the Babar books mostly because they were books of community creation and collaboration.
Later as life moved on, I continued to think a lot about the communities and groups I belonged to. I thought about who I was in those groups and what I could do to be a good member and live the life I dreamed of. I constantly made and remade plans to achieve what was most important. I erred often and created havoc too as I shared my true beliefs and ideas about what would better the teams I lived and worked with. I admit I often was easily frustrated by lack of change, agreement, or even full understanding of what was going on.
Now, I have a will to write--to write about my own wishes and dreams as well as to encourage and inspire others who, like me, are on journeys to live good lives with those they love and believe in. I generally wake up each morning with a new idea, and have chosen to follow that inspiration as it is truly who I am and in many ways what I am called to do.
I'm not really sure where all this writing will lead me, but I know that for the most part, it has already lead to a more fulfilling, loving life--a life I believe in and enjoy, and a life where I can usually give more.
We all make choices in life--choices that come from around us and deep in us. It's not important that our choices are the same, but instead, it's important that our choices reflect who we really want to be, what we believe in, and how we might affect our world in ways that are meaningful and positive.
I'm sure I'll look back at this post in ten years and see it in a somewhat different way. I remember years ago when I read a similar essay only to find that the early vision had become a reality in ways that were far more positive than I originally mattered--it's an event like this that encourages me to continue to follow what's true for me whether it seems rationale or well received at the moment or not. Time will tell where this journey will bring me. Onward.
