The United States, in many ways, is a competitive society. President Trump exemplifies this in every White House briefing as he uses superlatives in an attempt to convince those listening that he's responded to this pandemic better than anyone else. This competition, however, goes beyond the President and can be found in almost every nook and cranny of this pandemic. Yet, where the really good work is happening, people are not concerned with competition, but instead focused on collaboration--working together to respond with as much humanity, skill, and good work possible in order to save lives.
So when a spirit of competition arises during COVID-19, dismiss it as a natural, but not healthy, reaction to a worldwide disaster. Instead seek to collaborate, work together, and do what's best for everyone. This is a message to self and others as we navigate new waters. Onward.
