I'm charting the COVIS-19 days as I want to look back on this experience in time to see what happened over time. Right now, I can't predict what the days ahead will bring.
My Parents
My 90-year-old parents are in their home. They say they are not going out with the exception of grocery store visits. I'm planning to have them for dinner on Sunday if we are all still healthy. Their spirits are good.
My Family
There are three of us at home. We're all social distancing to hopefully keep the house free of the illness. This past weekend, my husband and son had to return to his college in DC to pick up his things. Another son is staying at his home with his fiance, and the third son, who is in the military, is following the directions of the captain at his base in the United States. We're checking in with one another often. My siblings, are mostly at home, and social distancing.
School
We had our first virtual faculty meeting this morning via Google Hangouts which was a success. We've created an online learning menu for our students, and we'll coach them accordingly. The Commissioner of Education has said that these days don't count as school days because we cannot provide many of the required services such as special education services. It has also already been decided that we will not make up these school days and the year will be shorter than 180 days this year. We'll do what we can to support students and families as best we can.
At-Home Living
There's a lot of uninteresting jobs staring me in the face such as cleaning closets, cleaning the garage, and more. These jobs are easy to avoid. There's attractive tasks available too such as watching great movies, researching, and cooking which I've been enjoying.
The News
Most of the news includes lots of updates about the coronavirus responses and spread. There's also the news that legendary New England Patriots quarterback is leaving the Patriots. Tom Brady is revered in New England so many will be sad to see him move on.
Coronavirus Impact
So far none of my close family members have been impacted physically by the virus. A friend of my son's called today to say that he is quite ill. We are hoping that he will be okay--it's not clear if he has the virus, but his symptoms point in that direction. My son has not had physical contact with this person. We are hoping for a quick recovery for this wonderful person. I'm curious about what my posts will be like in a week--what changes we'll encounter.
Leaders look tired as they speak. They are trying to remain positive, but you can see the toll this event is taking on them.
Tonight and Tomorrow
Tonight I'll get a good night's rest and tomorrow we'll send out a newsletter to students and families. I'll probably plant the seeds tomorrow to start the spring/summer garden. We have to take this day-by-day. Onward.
