Stay at home: COVID-19 March 19, 2020

Fortunately I live in a state with good leadership. I also live in a neighborhood where people are taking the coronavirus seriously. My home lends itself to the work and hobbies, my husband, college-age son, and I are engaged with. So, I can't complain.

Yet, like so many, there is worry related to this brand-new event, and there is also a sense of loss with regard to cancelled events, loved ones who live far away, and the typical work and socializing I do.

While I continue to worry about my elderly parents, I was happy to see my dad taking the news reports seriously. He called yesterday to tell me that he had just cleaned the entire house. He also told me about the delicious meal he made for he and my mom. He had good energy and a positive commitment to doing his part and trying to stay healthy. He demonstrated an awareness of the fact that he is in the high-risk category. I am thankful for the public service announcements on television that continually remind everyone about what they need to do--these messages definitely inspired my dad.

My children who live away appear to be taking the event seriously too and finding routines that work for them. Here at home we're falling into positive routines too. Today, I'll clean up the house as we prepare for the week ahead. I also watch a great movie and continue my new project of "cooking around the world" by making a healthy fish and chips dinner for my family. I am trying to cook foods from different countries often as a positive way to respond to this event. Fortunately the Internet offers lots and lots of great recipes to follow.

Onward.
