Trump troubles me

Seeing Trump speak today worried me for many reasons.

First, the objective of the meeting seemed to be to elevate United States' private business rather than to inform and take care of the American people. It seemed that Trump's bottom line today was that he was there to support the rise of medical businesses' profits which would also result in the rise of big investors' portfolios. Most Americans are not big investors, so once again, it seems that this meeting was mainly focused on supporting his small, narrow minded, wealthy base.

Next, since Trump has been exposed to coronavirus, it seems suspect that he has not been tested or has not self quarantined. It is also suspect that all those people were standing close to him, speaking into the same microphone, and not worried at all about catching the illness. They are not modeling what they are preaching. This is suspect.

And, it wasn't clear how people could be tested. Trump said repeatedly that if you don't have symptoms, you don't have to be tested. Then he spoke about Google many times and the fact that you would share your medical information on Google in order to get a test--this seems suspect and seems to be circumventing an individual's medical privacy as well an individual's ability to work with their own physician or health service organization to get the test if needed. This was not clear.

I also wondered why he called the young reporter's question about disbanding the pandemic health team, a nasty question. Was it nasty because it was from a young women (who happened to be a woman of color) or was it nasty because it was a question that pointed to his weakness as a leader who cannot foresee the future and make sure that he has the teams of best and brightest to deal with issues like this.

Further, one of the speakers, Dr. Dix, spoke of the invisible efforts at play before today--this was clearly untrue because Trump was not taking this virus seriously in the past few weeks. He did not act in time and with good effort. As far as we can see those "invisible efforts" were invisible because they were not happening.

In addition, I am worried about the fact that he said he was getting rid of some regulations related to nursing homes--what regulations and why? This worries me with respect to the health and dignity of our most vulnerable people.

Trump continues to trouble me mostly because of his narrow, bigoted, self-serving agenda. He also worries me because he thinks he knows a lot more than he truly knows, and while he sometimes talks the talk, he rarely walks the walk. Let's see what the days ahead hold, but his efforts related to this crisis have been weak and ignorant so far.
