We are all called in different ways during COVID-19

During this COVID-19 event, we are called to act in different ways.

This is a consideration we must all make, because while we can't do it all, we can all act in ways that matter. What does this mean for you?

For me at this time, I can do the following:
  • respond to family members needs and encourage and support in ways that I can
  • stay connected with family members via phone calls, virtual meetings
  • cook for my family members at home
  • virtually teach and connect with students, family members, and colleagues in the school community
  • research, reflect, and write about the news and information related to the event
  • stay at home to support the "flatten the curve" efforts and support the research, advice of scientists, mathematicians, leaders, and medical professionals
  • advocate for and support fair and compassionate supports for those who have lost their homes, faced the illness, lost their jobs, and experience other financial challenges at this time
In many ways, what I can do seems small compared to the heroic efforts of medical professionals who are on the front lines of this event. I honor their courage, skill, and dedication--they are saving lives at this grave time and deserve our support and advocacy.

I will continue to think deeply about my role and responsibility during this time--I imagine there will be some change with regard to this in the days ahead as the numbers of ill grow. I will respond as I am able. Onward.
