We are doing what we can to make the most of these social distancing days.
Grocery Shopping
Many are having groceries delivered. I don't want to do that, but I was afraid to shop after reading about how easily this COVID-19 is transmitted. So I wore a scarf around my nose and mouth as well as pair of gloves on my hands when I ventured to the grocery store. I stayed six feet away from others and shopped carefully for foods I could use to prepare meals for about two weeks. The store was almost empty, the workers seemed stressed and depressed, and many products were missing such as cleaning products, frozen fruits (for smoothies), and some types of beans. I hope I won't have to shop again for a while.
Navigating Many Perspectives
No matter what group I belong to, there is variability with regard to how to handle this situation. While almost everyone I know is taking the social distancing seriously, there are differences of opinion when it comes to how to best support friends and relatives, teach virtually, balance at-home needs with work needs, and what it means to strictly adhere to social distancing rules. The goal is to listen to one another, respect each other, and do what is right for you. What is right for one when it comes to the details of this situation may not be right for another. If we are taking the news and information related to this seriously, we have to trust ourselves.
Cancelling and Replacing Events
Many events we've been looking forward to have been cancelled. We simply have to accept this and replace those events with things we can do at home and outside. There is no choice here, and I keep reminding myself that a few months is a small price to pay when it comes to being healthy and saving lives.
Projects and Interests
I have a giant to-do list of projects and interests that will not be exhausted anytime soon. When his passes, I'll be happy that I completed a lot of these projects and developed my interests. When this time has passed, I won't want to be at home so much devoted to this work--now is the time.
That is the state of things right now--I wonder if this will change much in the weeks to come.
