To see long food lines is worrisome, but not surprising.
While the Trump team has been busy taking care of their aim to elevate their personal power and wealth, the rights and needs of most people have been dismissed and neglected.
One of the Trump team's worst attributes is that they are short sighted in their quest to become the world's elite--they don't realize that any power and wealth is compromised if the people around them are living in poverty and destitution. Good living for one depends on good living for all.
Thus, as we watch the Trump team's "booming" economy crumble since it was built on a shoddy foundation of a widening wealth gap, crippling deficit, policies that pollute, corrosion of good social supports, laziness, lies, and corruption, we are witnessing desperation exemplified in long food lines, lost jobs, struggling parents who are working and caring for their children at the same time, and of course and most troubling, the loss of so many good lives.
What can we do in the face of this desperation?
First, live responsibly. Take care of business at home to make sure that you can sustain this time at home with health and peace.
Next, find ways to help others. Can you contribute time or money to help out? Perhaps you can donate to a food bank, give blood, cook for a neighbor, friend, or family member, plant a garden that will feed you and others, or call a person who cannot leave their home.
And be safe, report incidents that worry you to the authorities. It is better to speak up early rather than wait until it is too late.
Plan to support a good future. Support good government leaders or perhaps run for office yourself. Speak about about local policies and use of tax payer funds to make sure that people in your community have what they need to succeed.
As much as possible, we must build strong communities with deep and positive culture. That is what is sustaining us now, but clearly there is room to do this better. Onward.
