It's so unnatural to socially distance since we are drawn to one another, we want to be close to those we love. Yet, this highly contagious COVID-19 virus distances us--if we get too close, we might contract or spread the virus. No one wants to be the reason why a loved one gets sick and no one wants to get sick. We have to socially distance.
So what will we do as we socially distance this Easter 2020? This morning I'll make a traditional Easter dinner, pack it up, and drive it to my parents' house. We'll spend some time with them bundled up in the yard separated a good six feet from one another. Then we'll wave good bye and be on our way. They can put their Easter dinners in the microwave and enjoy a good meal, and we'll head home to enjoy the same meal--a traditional Easter dinner including ham, squash, green beans, potatoes, fruit salad, green salad, and cookies and cupcakes for dessert. Ham's not my favorite, but it is my mom's favorite so I know she'll enjoy it.
As I look at pictures of Easter past, I long for that togetherness again. Yet, I know that this time is helping all of us to notice what is important in life, and hopefully we'll take that knowledge ahead and work towards betterment in our communities so that we don't have to face a situation like this as unprepared as we faced this COVID-19 as a country--our Trump Team's choice to belittle and ignore the pandemic warnings and advice of experts clearly put every American in danger at this time. Rather than act with intelligence and care, the Trump Team's ignorance and dangerous self serving efforts related to Mara Lago parties/golf, campaign rallies, defaming good people and policies across the country, and hunting for dirt on Joe Biden prevented them from taking the virus seriously by ignoring pandemic warnings, disbanding the pandemic health team, and not acting with intelligence by testing people entering the country via airports, employing social distancing earlier, and coordinating efforts to provide PPEs and work with scientists to test and combat this dangerous coronavirus.
Like many Americans, I am angry at President Trump for his lazy, ignorant, self-serving leadership. I am also angry at the many Republican cronies and family members who continue to support Trump in an effort to elevate their power and wealth alone--those heinous individuals clearly don't care about you or me, but instead seem to support a "less of them, more for me" mantra as they spread bigotry, dismantle social services, promote policies that spread hate, poverty, and pollution, and hob nob with other self-serving leaders across the globe to serve themselves rather than ALL. This is a corrupt crew--a Hitler-like gang of dangerous, me-first, hateful people. We all have to work against them and return our country to civility and the promise of continued work towards betterment for ALL.
I will continue to speak out against these self servers, people like Ivanka Trump who is profiting off of the deaths of thousands since she has a trademark on coffins--disgusting! But for now, I'll put my anger aside, and do as my mom has always taught me, use that energy to contribute, and my contribution today will be preparing a meal for those I love. Onward.
