Coronavirus Self-Coaching

Seems like we're in this stay-at-home time for the long run. This is a nasty virus that's got a hold on us. What are we going to do?

Positive self-coaching and positive self-care are the first priorities. There's a great deal of novelty at this time, and that novelty creates emotions and exhaustion at unexpected times. We just have to give into those moments and take the time we need to rest, relax, reflect, rejuvenate, and recalibrate. We're not climbing a mountain, we're scaling a mountain range instead.

It has been two months since we started this stay-at-home living and teaching routine. All in all, we've made the best of it. I work at home alongside my husband and son. We're all busy all day and we've accomplished a lot--that's good. I regularly visit my elderly parents at their home and respect social distancing guidelines during the visits. I've also engaged in all kinds of positive activities such as walking, biking, playing online scrabble, reading, researching, cooking, cleaning, and gardening. This has all been good too. As things go, I feel privileged and grateful to be in the position I am in.

Yet today was one of those days when it hit me--I'm more tired than usual and missing my old time life more. The death toll today as well as other reports were not too positive either. So how to I self coach myself through this period?

As I've noted before, the first job is to stay the course with school. We have a good routine, good support, and students are making some progress with positivity--that's good!

At home, we probably need to rethink some of our routines. Not because those routines don't work, but instead to keep it interesting.

And we may extend our circle a bit more now that the good weather is near which will give us more opportunity to get together with people while still respecting social distancing guidelines. Bottom line remains, we want to avoid sickness as much as we can.
