Sean and Duncan's podcast, TheStridePod, focuses on a critical question of our times, What is Good Leadership? |
My son, Sean Devlin, and his friend and former football co-captain, Duncan Stephenson, have started a podcast focused on leadership. My son has long been a sports enthusiast and a sports captain, and like any mother, I supported this learning adventure. I knew that it was a good focus, and an especially good focus during this pandemic when so many typical activities are cancelled or limited.
What I didn't realize, as they embarked on this journey, is how much I would enjoy and learn from their podcast, TheStridePod. First, it has been fascinating listening to and watching these young men create this small business--they have been tenacious about reaching out to all kinds of experts to learn the business. They've been organized and dedicated to making the time to research and prepare each interview, and they are committed to representing a wide variety of leaders from many perspectives.
Today I sat down and listened carefully to their last two podcasts. I found myself fascinated by the inside look I was getting from the interviewees' perspectives. I've attended the sports events these men are involved in and I know a lot of the team players so I really enjoyed getting a more intimate, inside look at their perspectives and experiences related to leadership. Since leadership is such an integral element of all that we do and experience in life, I found myself thinking deeply about, and debating, the ideas shared.
Sean and Duncan are bringing to light an integral question for these times: What is Good Leadership? This is a question we all need to think about with regard to our families, the organizations we belong to, our communities, our country, and world. Good leaders have the potential to make incredible change and growth in society, and bad leaders sadly have the potential to really take us back and hinder all that we can be as individuals, families, organizations, and communities.
What do you define as good leadership? What elements take priority? Who are the leaders you look up to?
I recommend this podcast not simply because I know the producers, but because this is an essential question of our times--a question that we all need to ponder and integrate into our own leadership no matter what groups we lead. Onward.
