My husband and I took a drive to put flowers on his parents' graves yesterday. We arrived at a peaceful time in the morning at the tiny cemetery. His family honored his parents' love for aesthetics by placing two beautiful stones in their honor and surrounding those stones with plantings. The red geraniums brightened the spot as well. I couldn't believe how long it's been since Jack and Jeanne passed--we had so many good times with them, and I miss them. I was happy we could spend some time honoring the positive impact they had and still have on our lives.
After that, we took a long winding ride through country roads. It was great just to be away from the familiar for a while to observe the beautiful countryside. Later, in the afternoon, we joined a drive-by 50th wedding anniversary celebration. We stopped to exchange stories for some time at a safe social distance. In the evening, we shared a nice dinner, watched the news, played a few games of online Scrabble, and watched the movie, Military Wives, which was funny and touching. A good day overall.
Today we'll prepare good food and bring it to my parents' house for a visit. It's another bright and sunny day so far. Later we'll likely get outdoors and bike, walk, or garden then enjoy a nice dinner and movie. These are simple days.
Tomorrow will be devoted to the garden--I have high hopes for my plants, but I definitely have to dedicate more time to this endeavor if I want to reap the benefits.
Like many, I'd love to hop in the car and take a lengthy road trip, but that's not smart right now. This continues to be a time when short term sacrifice will result in long term gain. A few weeks or months or even a year or more of relative isolation is worth many good years after that. In the meantime, I can prepare for those big adventures ahead by living well now--that matters. Onward.
