Changing the way we live; knowledge is power

Clearly we have to change the way we live these days to protect ourselves from COVID-19 spread, to be as healthy as we can be, and to live in ways that our Earth-friendly and equitable too.

While the Trump team remains mired in outdated, unhealthy, and self-serving ways that exasperate COVID-19 spread, working against healthy living, create greater pollution and environmental demise, and promote prejudice and inequity, we have to do the opposite while also speak out and working against the Trump team's destructive, dangerous actions.

What do these changes look like in real time?

Backyard gardens and farm stands
As much as possible we have to grow our own food and support local farms and farm stands. We also have to support funding and policies that support local agriculture and grow-your-own-food initiatives.

At-home composting
To reduce greater garbage, save electricity, and create our own good soil, we have to support at-home composting efforts throughout our communities.

Healthy recreation opportunities
Many communities simply don't have an infrastructure for positive, healthy living. We need more green spaces, sidewalks, bike trails, swimming pools, and more to promote positive living.

Safe neighborhoods
We need laws and policies that promote safe neighborhoods.

Top-notch education opportunity
We should support top-notch education opportunity for all people. Our schools should be the centerpiece of society. A well-educated populace is a more peaceful, positive, and healthy people.

Re-think celebrations
To prevent the spread of Covid-19, we have to re-think our celebrations. For the time being, we need to mostly celebrate outdoors and celebrate with fewer rather than more people at one time.

Passion-based endeavor and learning
It's time to rethink our time and investments to live well now and be ready for a positive future. What does that mean for you? Social distancing makes it a great time to gain professional credits and knowledge--it's a good time to study. This is also a good time clean up your homes, get rid of unnecessary items, focus on healthy habits, read, research, write, and create. At the end of this time, we all want to be able to say that we made the best of an uncomfortable, compromising situation and we have some new skill, knowledge, ability, or mindset to show for it.

Personal habits
We need to shift our personal health habits in order to be safer at this time. We can do the following to mitigate the threats of catching the COVID-19:

  • Wear sunglasses or glasses outside - there's a thought that the virus can spread through the eyes, but that's not confirmed. We do know, however, that wearing glasses prevents us from touching our eyes.
  • Wear masks when amongst lots of people--that's one way to block the virus.
  • Use hand sanitizer and/or wash your hands at every transition. Lather up before grocery shopping, use hand sanitizer while you shop, and then wash your hands and use sanitizer afterwards.
  • Don't touch your face.
  • Keep the six foot distance.
  • Don't attend gatherings of large groups of people.
  • Take good care of yourself so that if you do catch it, you'll have a chance of fighting it off.
Use your time, energy, intelligence, and if possible, money, to advocate for better government
Lately the Trump team has been working against our good health and happy living in the White House. Trump's quick fix policies have elevated pollution, poverty, and threats to our good living in every way. Most agree that the Trump team is an ignorant, self-serving team that only looks out for their own personal interests. When people are not active in government, those that gain leadership positions get away with leading for their own gain alone. That leaves the rest of us behind--we all have to get involved, speak up, and act for what is right and good for all people, not just a few powerful, wealthy folk.
