Squashes take root. |
I started my Little Garden that Could in April, and the garden has been a source of pleasure since. It has been enjoyable to watch the garden grow. The little garden has been a conversation piece and a yard amenity. For example, last night we moved the tables and chairs to a spot next to the garden to enjoy appetizers and drinks with visiting family members.
Creating spaces like this is a good way to meet pandemic limitations and update your home environment. This little project is also a visual metaphor for investing in something positive--by charting the efforts, I can see the movement from a plot of grass to a plot of garden soil to a plot of seedlings to a flourishing green space. So far we've enjoyed the basil and lettuce. Hopefully in the future, the harvest will include tomatoes, squashes, peppers, beans, cucumbers, and some pretty flowers.
The garden is also a good way to get some healthy exercise and spend some quality time outdoors.

Seedlings started indoor are planted outside in the garden. A few bought plants are planted too. |

Basil and a few weeds too. |

In late June, the garden is flourishing. We've enjoyed some lettuce and basil so far.

Tomatoes from the store-bought plants are already growing.
