We all have weak sides, and for the most part, we tend to lean on our strong sides instead. When we continually lean in the direction of our strengths, our weak sides get weaker.
Few of us like to face our weak sides, and most of us typically ignore our weak sides. Yet, we know that we have to face those weaknesses from time to time to be stronger, more well-rounded people. How can we do that?
Acknowledge your weaknesses
A quick review of life's challenges and activities reveal many of our weaknesses. Before you can strengthen a weakness, you have to acknowledge it.
Make a plan to focus on your weaknesses
Commit to an activity on your own or preferably with others that focuses on your weakness. Establish a routine to respond to this weakness. Schedule that routine in the same way you schedule a doctor's appointment, professional event, or important celebration--add it to the calendar and make it a priority.
Work at it day by day
Focus on this day by day to make a difference.
As an educator, I often have to coach students who face an academic weakness. What works best is daily attention to that weakness with engaging, positive, encouraging activities and coaching. I'll do the same with regard to a few weak areas I want to strengthen during the summer months. Onward.
