Pandemic Portfolio

We're all finding ways to make this pandemic a doable, meaningful, tolerable time in our lives. We're working against the losses we are experiencing--losses related to good times, special celebrations, life as we know it and love it, and for some sadly, loss of loved ones.

Every morning I wake up and think about how to adjust my days to find the silver linings within these pandemic limitations, the light in the darkness, the surprising opportunities. Today I'm thinking about my pandemic portfolio or scrapbook. When I look back at this time, what will I have to look back on?

The Garden
As I've written about before, I have a beautiful little garden that provides healthy food, entertainment, and a beautiful amenity in the yard.

Family Picnics
I always loved picnics as a child and this is a time filled with outdoor gatherings and picnics. This has been the way to get together in safe and enjoyable ways.

Creative, Meaningful Online Learning and Teaching
Our team found a large number of ways to continue the teaching and learning with students via virtual field trips, STEAM projects, team building, math problem solving, academic talks, research, reading, plays, and project presentation. While unlike our traditional program in many ways, we found ways to replicate the typical learning goals and standards online with students.

More Time for Reading and Research
There's been more time to read and research--so my book list and knowledge levels will grow at this time.

Intimacy
There's definitely been more time for all kinds of intimacy--as one from a big family, my life has been filled with big events and lots of people. While lots of fun, this did not lend itself to more intimate conversations whereas COVID-19 limitations have created more time to get to know and spend time with those we love and know in more intimate ways.

Expanded Cooking Repertoire
Without the opportunity to eat out, and with so much time at home, there has been the time to explore lots of new recipes and cooking/baking tools. We've made sushi, Indian dishes, Pad Thai, and lots and lots of delicious salads throughout this pandemic. Life before the pandemic found us buying take out a lot more due to little time and busy schedules.

Home Updates and Repair
Since we're at home more, we've spent more time updating, organizing, and repairing our space. This is good too.

Health
With less of a rat race, there's more time for health routines

What will be part of our pandemic portfolio? What will you accomplish during this time of unusual and unexpected limitations? When you look back on this time, what will you be satisfied with with regard to your accomplishments and daily living?
