I continually refine my roadmap as I seek to live a truthful, good life. In the past when I faced situations that felt bad, I'd react, but now I am better at simply experiencing the negativity and thinking about what makes the situation a negative situation and thoughtfully making a decision as to how to respond.
I think the difference is that in the past I didn't feel in control of so many situations--I felt oppressed in a number of ways, but now I feel like I have a lot more control thanks to years of events that have created this situation.
So now, I ask myself these questions when something is negative:
I think the difference is that in the past I didn't feel in control of so many situations--I felt oppressed in a number of ways, but now I feel like I have a lot more control thanks to years of events that have created this situation.
So now, I ask myself these questions when something is negative:
- What am I feeling and why?
- What do I own in the situation--is there a way I can better my participation, contribution, or response?
- What are my choices? I could speak up? I could leave the situation? I could work against the situation?
- Is it worth it? Some negative experiences are simply a matter of time and place. For example recently I was exposed to a situation that would have felt like a marvelous opportunity to me many years ago, but now it felt like old news. I recognized the difference so while the situation was not positive for me, it was positive for others.
- How can I better spend my time?
So as I refine my roadmap, I want to veer towards positive endeavor, positive mindset, and positive contribution.
Where is that path leading me?
Learn from the best
Today we have all kinds of avenues for learning. We don't have to waste our learning time in subpar learning endeavor--great authors, experts, courses, talks and lectures are close at hand, so choose the best possible avenues of learning. Learn from the best.
Contribute the best you have to offer
Think about what it is that you can contribute; and seek to contribute your best gifts, talents, and abilities. Perhaps it is best to sway away from contribution that isn't your best, but I use the word "perhaps" because sometimes sharing what is not your best puts you on a path of eventually honing a skill or contribution that will become your best.
Use time well
Think about your most energized time. Think about your long term goals. How do you use time? Strive to use time well.
Hone your values and live by your values
Think about what your values are. Continue to refine your values. Live by your values.
Use your words wisely
It is critical to speak up when needed, but it is also critical to use your words wisely.
