The COVID-19 creates social dilemmas.
Some are ignoring all warnings, some are following all warnings, and there's many who fall all along the continuum in between.
This is one of the greatest challenges of the pandemic.
As an individual who regards science highly, I fall on the end of the spectrum that is following almost all guidelines. I've taken a few calculated risks when it comes to close family members and a trip to the grocery store, but not too much more. Yet, I have neighbors who are throwing big outdoor parties with lots of people, no masks, and little social distancing. Two ends of the spectrum in one neighborhood. Who's right and who's wrong? Is there a right or wrong?
With regard to most of life's events, we have laws that help people not veer in the direction of too much risk. Speeding laws mitigate highway errors, boating laws hinder problems at sea, and drinking and driving laws keep people safe too. But with COVID-19, the laws are murky--as everyone keeps saying, we are navigating new territory here; it's mostly uncharted territory.
So we'll all continue to do our best to make good choices. We'll check in with one another to see what people think about the situation, and how they're deciding. They'll likely be some disagreement along the way, but hopefully, in the end, our choices will lead us to a healthy future rid of the nuisance, worry, danger, and loss this pandemic brings. Onward.
